Todd Olges

Todd began playing trumpet at nine years old. In high school, he played in band, orchestra, jazz band, brass ensemble for show choirs and in the pit orchestra for musicals. He also played in three groups outside the school system, ranging from brass choir to brass quintets, which gave him the opportunity to play with adults. Todd played in All State Band and All State Jazz Band as well as attending summer music camps.

Todd attended Indiana University where he studied music performance with a concentration in Trumpet. He performed with multiple bands and orchestras, attended the Indiana University summer music festival, the Eastern Music Festival as well as performing at the College Band Directors Association National Conference. Todd was recognized by the Indiana chapter of the International Trumpet Guild as the winner of their competition held in 1991. While there, he married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer. They have been married for over thirty years and have two adult children, Alex and Andy.

After leaving Indiana, Todd served in the music ministry in various local churches and currently, he and his wife own a private preschool in the Humble area. Todd enjoys an active freelance career, and one of his greatest joys in life is making music with his son, Andy, who is also a member of Symphony North in the string bass section. Andy and Todd also share in playing with Todd’s dad in their instrumental trio, Homebound Sound. Todd currently plays with the Woodlands Concert Band, and has performed with Houston Sinfonietta, Houston Brass Band, and Foundation Brass. He plays for church services, weddings, funerals and for special patriotic observances.

Todd would like to thank all who have contributed to his musical development, but would recognize the most influential as: Darrell Olges, Eddie Clark, “Chappy” Perry, Charles Gorham, Boyd Hood, and Mark Hughes. The honor of soloing with the orchestra today is his highest honor as there is nothing like making music with friends!
