Symphony North of Houston Announces Late Spring Concert & Young Artist Winners
Symphony North of Houston invites the community to its Late Spring Concert & Young Artist Winners performance on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Salem Lutheran Church in Tomball, Texas. This special event will be the final concert of Symphony North’s 50th Anniversary Season, bringing a milestone year of music-making to a celebratory close.
The program will be presented under the conducting of Dr. Karl Blench and will celebrate the remarkable young musicians selected as Symphony North’s 2026 Young Artist Competition 1st Place Category Winners. For nearly three decades, Symphony North has provided a meaningful platform for gifted young performers to appear as soloists with a full orchestra, and this year’s winners continue that proud tradition.
The afternoon will feature an exciting and varied program, including Dan Brown’s Wild Symphony, arranged and orchestrated by Dr. Karl Blench, along with concerto performances by the 2026 Young Artist winners. Audiences will hear Jonathan Zhang, 1st Place Winds, performing Ingolf Dahl’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone; Gabrielle Shin, 1st Place Strings, performing the first movement of Felix Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E minor; and Carl Rubly, 1st Place Piano, performing the first movement of Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
Together, these young artists represent the talent, discipline, and promise of the next generation of classical musicians. Their performances with Symphony North will offer audiences an inspiring opportunity to experience exceptional student artistry alongside the full sound and support of a community orchestra.
The program also includes Wild Symphony, a lively orchestral work based on the musical storytelling of bestselling author Dan Brown. With its imaginative spirit and colorful orchestration, Wild Symphony offers a family-friendly addition to an afternoon centered on musical discovery, creativity, and celebration.
For those looking to enjoy live orchestral music while supporting local arts and young musicians, the Late Spring Concert & Young Artist Winners performance promises a memorable afternoon of artistry, achievement, and community. Symphony North of Houston looks forward to welcoming patrons, families, friends, and music lovers on May 17 for this special spring concert and the close of its 50th Anniversary Season.
