Houston, Texas – August 13, 2024—Symphony North of Houston announced the soloist for its October 13, 2024, concert.
Symphony North of Houston is delighted to announce its very own, Zachary Thornton, will solo with Symphony North for its opening, October 13, 2024, 4:00 PM concert at Salem Lutheran Church in Tomball, Texas. Admission to our concerts is by donation at the door, or patrons may donate online. This concert will be under the baton of Symphony North’s principal conductor, Dr. Karl Blench.
Mr. Thornton will be performing William Grant Still’s Romance as he is accompanied by Symphony North.
Zachary Thornton
Zachary “Zac” Thornton is a bass trombonist from Humble, TX. He began playing bass trombone at thirteen years old at Humble High School. By the end of his high school career, he had worked his way up from the beginner band to the top band and had also performed with the Texas All-State Concert Band. He received a Bachelor’s of Music from Stephen F. Austin University in 2008 where he studied with Dr. Deb Scott and performed in the SFA Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Gene Moon. Zachary also attended the University of North Texas where he earned a Master’s in Library Science. While at UNT, he studied trombone with Mrs. Jan Kagarice, performed with the UNT Symphony Orchestra and also with the 2 O’Clock. He is a freelance trombonist across the Houston area and has subbed for the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony, and the Houston Ballet.
Zac is often spotted around town practicing in unusual venues, and his motto is:
if you have five minutes of spare time, use it to practice.
He maintains a small studio and is a founding member of the Houston Trombone Collective. Zac enjoys spending his free time listening to music, reading books, practicing, and with his beautiful wife, Karie, and two dogs.
