Renee Babin
Renee Babin is a soprano and french horn player from Houston, TX. She spent much of early childhood singing in church. She attended Haynes Academy in the New Orleans area for middle and high school, where she learned to play the french horn in band and took voice lessons from the talented music teacher. She performed in multiple district honor bands and the Louisiana All-State concert band on french horn. In 2020 she received her Bachelor’s in Music Education from Loyola University of New Orleans, where she privately studied horn for all four years with members of the Louisiana Philharmonic horn section, and took private jazz voice lessons with Leah Chase. She performed in various ensembles at Loyola as both a horn player and vocalist, including the orchestra, wind ensemble, university chorus, and jazz ensembles.
In 2020, Renee moved to the North Houston area and began teaching K-5 general music in Klein ISD. She joined Symphony North as the 2nd chair horn player and primarily only sang in the classroom. In 2022 she chose to leave the classroom and began pursuing a career in the public library. Now, Renee is a library specialist in children’s services downtown, and is pursuing her Master’s degree in library sciences from Texas Woman’s University. She is also an at-large board member for Symphony North, and is Jennifer Moorhead’s partner-in-crime handling the orchestra’s music library. She spends most of her days doing library work for musicians, and musical work for the library (in the form of nursery rhymes).
