Graeme Richmond
Graeme Richmond was born in Louisiana and grew up in Michigan, where he started playing the cello at the age of seven. Fifth-grade orchestra saved him from quitting the instrument when he discovered the joys of playing music with other people. Graeme first heard the Elgar Cello Concerto at about the same age while on a family sabbatical in Durham, England. While in high school, he participated in honors and all-state orchestras, attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and, as a senior, won the youth orchestra’s concerto competition playing Lalo’s Cello Concerto in D Minor.
In 2019, Graeme earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from DePauw University (Greencastle, IN), studying cello with Eric Edberg, and he moved directly from there to his current teaching position at Woodridge Forest Middle School in New Caney School ISD.
Under Mr. Richmond, (known to his students as “the Avatar” for his mastery of all four string instruments), the orchestras have consistently performed well in adjudicated events and been well represented in honors ensembles.
In addition to Symphony North, Graeme plays in Symphony Inspira, has sung with the Houston Symphony Chorus, teaches private cello students, and is a busy freelance musician. He loves LEGO, Liverpool soccer, making latte art, fantasy games and novels, playing the guitar, listening to music, and his girlfriend, Symphony North violinist Caroline Pagano.
