Randy Tan, First Place

Randy Tan is a senior at Clements high school. He has been studying piano under the guidance of Mr. John Weems. He also studies violin with Mr. Henry Rubin, and was an all-state orchestra violinist in 2016 and 2018.

Randy is a senior at Clements high school. He has studied piano with John Weems and violin with Henry Rubin for 8 years. He has won various competitions for piano such as the 2019 Clear Lake Concerto Competition Senior Division, the 2019 South Texas Piano Competition Concerto Division and 2nd place in the Solo Division. Randy was also in the String and Philharmonic orchestra in the TMEA All State Orchestra in 2017 and 2019.

Chanya Methaprayoon, Runner-up

Chanya Methaprayoon, age 10, is a 5th grader at Roosevelt Alexander Elementary in Katy, TX.  She began playing the piano at the age of 4 and currently studies under the guidance of Mr. John Weems.  Over the past two years Chanya has received numerous awards for her piano performance.

During her free time Chanya volunteers spreading the joy of music to the community at various senior homes in Katy. Aside from piano, Chanya also enjoys drawing, reading, and mathematics. Her accomplishments outside of music consist of taking 1st prize for her artwork at the Katy Rice Festival (2018) and South-Central Regional Winner of the Angie Greer Music in Poetry Contest (2019). Chanya is enrolled in the Gifted and Talented program at her school and also participates in her school’s Math/Science Team. 

Kyle Tsai, Second Runner-up

Kyle Tsai, age 16, is a junior at the DeBakey High School. He began playing the piano at 5 and the clarinet at 11, and has been a member of the Houston Youth Symphony for five years. He has won many awards for his clarinet and piano performance.

In addition to being an avid clarinetist, Kyle has played the piano since age 5 and won many competitions. He has performed as a featured soloist with the Fort Bend Symphonic Orchestra (piano, age 12), DeBakey Orchestra (piano, age 14), and Clear Lake Symphony (clarinet, age 14). Academically, Kyle is a two-time Dean’s Scholastic Awardee and straight-A student anticipating a double major in Music & Science. In his free time, Kyle enjoys playing basketball, watching movies, listening to music, tasting food, and traveling the world.
