Symphony North of Houston proudly recognizes saxophonist Jonathan Zhang as the 2026 Young Artist Concert Competition First Place winner in Winds. He will perform at the Late Spring Concert on May 17, 2026, where he will compete for Best Overall Performance.
Jonathan Zhang Earns First Place in Winds
Symphony North of Houston is proud to spotlight Jonathan Zhang as the 2026 Young Artist Concert Competition First Place Winner in Winds.
At the Finalist Audition on February 21, 2026, Jonathan received 1st Place Winds for his performance of the first movement of Ingolf Dahl’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone. His musical accomplishment and commanding performance earned him top honors in his category.
Next Stop: The Late Spring Concert
Jonathan will return to the stage at Symphony North’s Late Spring Concert on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Salem Lutheran Church in Tomball, Texas.
During this concert, the top performers from the Strings, Piano, and Winds divisions will present their winning selections, and one musician will be chosen for Best Overall Performance. Each category winner will receive a $500 scholarship and trophy, and the overall winner will be awarded an additional $500 scholarship and trophy.
An Accomplished Young Musician
Jonathan is a junior at Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He began playing the saxophone in the seventh grade and has already built an impressive record of achievement.

His recent honors include:
- 2026 National YoungArts Award Winner in Classical Music/Saxophone
- Finalist in the 2026 Juanita Miller Concerto Competition
- Winner of the 2025 HSPVA Concerto Competition
- Best Instrumentalist at the 2025 InterContinental Music Awards
- First Prize in the 2024 American Virtuoso International Music Competition, presented by the American Society of Music Excellence
- Outstanding Performer at the 2024 UIL Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest
Jonathan’s growing list of accomplishments reflects both his dedication and his rising artistry as a young saxophonist.
